Buenas Dias family and friends, this is Big D with the initial blog for the Afro-Caribbean Music Research Project (ACMRP) in St. Croix. We will be here till June 10, the "we" being Emmett Price and myself along with 15 students from NEU. We arrived yesterday after flying from Boston to San Juan, then a smaller plane to St. Croix. All of us are staying at Sugar Beach Resort and we begin orientation today at 9:30am.
The purpose of the ACMRP is to provide students an immersion experience in investigating and researching African based musical traditions of the Caribbean. Our intent is to travel to various Caribbean locations learning about and exploring historical and contemporary aspects of African based music cultures via applied ethnomusicology.
